Start CAD with underlays, drawing types and layers

Complete and review the walls, openings and major furniture. CAD shares this architectural data.

Where to find itDesign studio → CAD / services
  1. 01

    Open CAD

Select the design and level, then CAD / services. Check orientation and units: CAD uses millimetres rather than the centimetres common in design fields.

  2. 02

    Choose a drawing

Select combined M, dimensions A, lighting E1, power E2 or plumbing P. Separate drawings retain architecture, dimensions and annotations.

  3. 03

    Set layers

Hide unnecessary layers or lock those you do not want to move. Edit architectural walls and openings in 2D / 3D.

  4. 04

    Navigate and inspect

Pan, zoom or fit the drawing, then edit selected elements. Check the current drawing and visible layers before saving: exports and quantities use visible content.

Check your work

Switch drawing types and confirm the required points and lines remain available.

Can I import DWG or DXF?

DXF export is supported. DWG / DXF import and full AutoCAD editing are not currently available.

Does hiding a layer delete its elements?

No. Hidden and locked elements remain in the design.

Draw lighting, switches, sockets and circuits

Prepare confirmed point locations and circuits. This tutorial does not provide load or protection design.

Where to find itCAD / services → Lighting / Power
  1. 01

    Choose the drawing

Use E1 for lights and switches, and E2 for sockets, distribution boards, air-conditioning power and network points. Check furniture and door locations.

  2. 02

    Place points

Select the appropriate symbol and place each point. The system assigns numbers, which you can adjust to the project convention.

  3. 03

    Enter properties

Set the circuit, installation height and notes. Leave unconfirmed specifications unset rather than treating tutorial examples as construction instructions.

  4. 04

    Connect the route

Place the start, bends and endpoint with the matching line tool. Press Enter or Finish. Edit nodes and check point references against circuits.

Check your work

Check every point, circuit and height, then inspect quantities for duplicates.

Does it calculate electrical loads?

No. It records layouts but does not calculate loads, design protection or approve construction.

How do I cancel an unfinished route?

Esc cancels the route. Backspace removes the last node.

Draw water, drainage, valves and outlets

Prepare confirmed water points, drain directions and specifications. These are layout drawings, not complete engineering calculations.

Where to find itCAD / services → Plumbing P
  1. 01

    Open the plumbing drawing

Select P and check the kitchen, bathroom, balcony and equipment. Retain furniture as an underlay if helpful.

  2. 02

    Place valves and outlets

Place valves or floor drains and verify their references. Use numeric or keyboard adjustments for precise locations.

  3. 03

    Draw pipe routes

Draw cold water, hot water and drainage separately. Use orthogonal or free positioning as needed, then edit nodes after completing the route.

  4. 04

    Add specifications

Enter pipe size, mounting height, drainage gradient and notes. Save and review quantities; lengths follow only the drawn routes.

Check your work

Check against the site and approved drawing, including water types, flow directions and labels.

Do quantities include risers and waste?

No. Risers, connections and wastage are not added automatically.

Does 3D create a complete services network?

No. The 3D services view illustrates the planar layout rather than a fully height-resolved network.

Add dimensions, leaders and precise nodes

Review the underlay scale first. Dimension annotations cannot correct an incorrectly scaled drawing.

Where to find itCAD / services → Dimensions / Leaders / Node coordinates
  1. 01

    Choose two endpoints

Select the dimension tool and both endpoints. The displayed straight-line distance is in mm; a diagonal distance is not a horizontal clear width.

  2. 02

    Offset the dimension

Move the dimension outside the plan and separate multiple dimension chains. Keep labels clear of openings and other annotations.

  3. 03

    Add a leader

Place the arrow and text position, then describe the target and requirement clearly. Avoid vague notes with no identifiable object.

  4. 04

    Refine nodes

Enter millimetre coordinates or add bends. Arrow keys move 10 mm, or 1 mm with Shift. Recheck dimensions after editing.

Check your work

Cross-check a known site length and make sure text is readable in print preview.

Are DXF dimensions associative?

No. Dimensions export as visible lines and text, not associative DIMENSION entities.

How do I reduce clutter?

Offset dimension chains, remove overlapping annotations and choose a suitable paper size and scale.

Export DXF, PDF drawings and services quantities

Save and check the layers first. Use the correct paper and 100% printing scale.

Where to find itCAD / services → Sheet / PDF / DXF / Quantities
  1. 01

    Choose the scope

Select the drawing and visible layers, including furniture if needed. Exports and quantities follow visible content, so check for missing points.

  2. 02

    Fill the title block

Choose A3 or A4 landscape, a scale, drawing number, revision, author and reviewer. Adjust paper or scale if the plan is too large.

  3. 03

    Preview and print

Download SVG or print to PDF. Select 100%, turn off headers and footers, and avoid fit-to-page. Correct overflow before printing.

  4. 04

    Download DXF and CSV

DXF exports lines, circles and text at 1:1 in millimetres. CSV counts visible points and drawn route lengths for a separate material review.

Check your work

Reopen the output and check a known length, drawing number and point count. Measure the printed scale too.

Does the quantity list create a purchase order?

No. Review connections, risers and waste before creating material requirements.

Does DXF include full furniture models?

No. Furniture exports as simplified plan outlines rather than full 3D models.
